A Letter from the Chair

“A season. A reason. A lifetime.” (Brian A. Chalker, poem)
This has been said about people who come into our lives. We hold them for a reason (to learn, challenge and hopefully grow), a season (a period of time) or a lifetime (those connected to our souls throughout).
The words reflect a moment, or moments, in time as if we move through them. When we understand that some of these people may be the ‘reason’ for our overwhelmed lives, it becomes a little less poetic – certainly more complex. Unfortunately, when their presence has resulted in trauma, their impact can interrupt, interfere, impair – again and again.
We recently updated our tri-fold leaflet. There isn’t a picture of a room full of stuff in it.
When we discuss other psychological difficulties, we show images of people.
Hoarded belongings are a visual representation of the disruption and disturbance experienced within and manifested outside. Our sort of slogan works to capture the real stuff behind the door.
There is, though, a brilliant piece of art within it by Will Teather, Time Capsule which is used with permission. I was drawn to the painting due to its intricacy and depth. Every item tells a story. Is it a hoard or a life?
Are there reasons others fill us with intrusive thoughts through their actions? Likely. Is there a season where we can take time and heal? Hopefully. With the aim of living our lifetime as our true selves.
